Moonrise Kingdom Full Press Conference - Festival de Cannes 2012
“My favorite thing about Wes… I didn’t pick up this fact until I worked on Moonrise Kingdom, but on Moonrise Kingdom, whenever Wes would go and direct the kids, they’re all standing there and he would lean down and talk to them all. And in all the baby books that I read, as the kids get to a certain age and you need to talk to them, the main thing that they encourage is getting down to their level and look at them eye to eye. It’s a very respectful way to communicate, to basically say, “I’m here with you. I’m not talking down to you.” And I’m sure he hasn’t read whatever children’s pediatric book I was reading, but it’s very natural to him, and he’s very respectful of kids and their emotions, like in Fantastic Mr. Fox. All these things have been alluded to in his other movies, that kids have a much deeper, complicated inner life than some adults will really acknowledge.”

“How to Remake Your Life to Look Like Moonrise Kingdom”
I had a window seat for a few brief childhood years. I loved it and hope the house my children grow up in has one (or two) for them, too.
AMAZING. After coming out of Moonrise Kingdom the other night, I told my friends that all I really needed in life was a .gif of Bill Murray throwing his shoe at Ed Norton.
Lo and behold, Internet magic. Someone out there is a mindreading god. Wellp, guess that’s all I needed. Life: fulfilled.

Wes Anderson’s latest film, Moonrise Kingdom, is now playing in select theaters and will expand to more cities in the weeks to come. Today, ComingSoon.net had the chance to speak with the auteur filmmaker, who revealed that he has prepared a special animated short film designed to serve as a companion piece to Moonrise and that it will premiere online next week.
“[The character of Suzy has] a suitcase full of these young adult fantasy type novels,” Anderson told us. “Sort of sci-fi/fantasy books. We had to invent them and give a little glimpse of each one. Different artists, most of whom very close to the filmmakers, were doing these. In fact, we have now animated them, each little passage, each in the style of the cover of the book. We’ve made a little short film that’s hosted by Bob Balaban, the narrator in our movie. That will come out next week on the internet. It’ll be a little companion piece to the movie.”
Anderson took a similar approach with the release of The Darjeeling Limited in 2007, premiering the live-action short Hotel Chevalier online. That film starred Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman as theirDarjeeling characters.
Check back soon for details on where, when and how to watch the new short film and for full interviews with the cast and crew of Moonrise Kingdom.
I was lucky enough to go to the premiere of Wes Anderson’s new film Moonrise Kingdom last night thanks to Search Party and today I found what I would wear if I was to going the cast. Camp inspired from the film.
